Mrs Hadwen with her husband had long been identified with the business and social growth of Worcester. Though a woman who loved the home better than outside attractions she was fully in sympathy with her husband's horticulture work and gave him every assistance in its prosecution. During the time of her married life in Worcester she sa the city grow from a village to a large city. She had many friends as was shown when Mr Hadwen and she celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding nearly six years ago. At that time numerous friends assembled to offer congratulations and gifts. Mrs hadwen was the daughter of Maj Joel page of Westminster and niece of judge Closson of Springfield. She was married to mr Hadwen on Christmas day 1845. The 56 years of her married life was passed in the same home which has been almost surrounded by the city which was then far from its doors. Arrangements for the funeral were not completed last night.

The Vermont Phoenix and Record and Farmer Friday Jan 20 1882:3:2: WESTMINISTER. Sudden death Caused by Fright. Great excitement over the sad event. Last Saturday night Fred Streeter webt home to his father-in-law's house Mr Samuel Cobb's where his wife and daughter were staying. About 2 o'clock sunday morning he got up very thirsty and finding the cellar door locked took an ax and broke it open so that he could get a drink of cider which was stored there said to belong to a Mr A Farrington of which he drank freely. Early in the morning a person called at the house for a morning dram when Streeter demanded the privilege of drinking with him but was denied which enraged him exceedingly and then the family trouble began in ernest. Loud talk and threats of personal enjury was made between Streeter and Cobb and finally Cobb and wife were driven from the house by the enraged Streeter while Streeter's wife locked herself in an upper room. Cobb was very much excited and in order to get away from Streeter ran from the house through the barn jumping out of the back door and ran across the lot down old Session's hill to the residence of Mr Henry Page begged of Mr Page for God's sake to go at once to his house and protect his family as he believed Streeter would kill them all. Mr page noticed that Cobb looked bad and told him he thought he needed help first; but Cobb entreated so earnestly that Page went to Cob's house and found Streeter drunk with a horse whip in his hand. Immediately after Page left his own house Mr Cobb sank back in his chair gasping for breath apparently dying.A messenger was sent at once for Mr page to return with all possible haste. He did so and found Mr Cobb dead. These are some of the particulars as gathered from the many conflicting statements. The affair created a great deal of excitement in the town and the stores of the village were crowded on Monday evening with people discussing the situation. It was strongly urged that the town authorities should take action for the arrest of Streeter and some very strong language was used in regard to the proper disposition of Streeter but as yet no action either by the authorities or citizens has been taken. By the request of the selectman and consent of Mrs Cobb a post mortem exaimination was made Tuesday evening by Drs Daniel Campbell and son who found that Cobb's death resulted from heart disease there being an almost complete ossification of one side and that the terrible fright and excitement was the immediate cause of death. [from the Boston Journal]: Excitement is high in Westminster over the sudden death of Samuel Cobb aged 64 an old resident of the town and highly esteemed on Sunday last at 10 A. M. Cobb's son-in-law Fred Streeter about 30 a dissolute intemperate man for the past few years has often come home intoxicated threatening and using violence. A short time ago papers were issued for his arrest for threatening violence but the family begged him off. Last week Streeter had been at work at some distance from Cobb's and returned early Sunday morning drunk broke into Cobb's cellar with an axe getting some hard cider owned by a neighbor that was stored there. He became crazy from the effect routed out the household drove them all out of doors and kept most of them out till about ten o'clock. Cobb then ran to Henry Page's for help and when he reached there sank into a chair dying almost immediately probably from heart disease caused by the fright. People going to Cobb's found Streeter lying on the sitting room floor dead drunk with a horse whip clasped in his hand and his wife upstairs locked in a room and terribly frightened. The indignation of the citizens is great and legal proceedings are expected yet Streeter can not [robably be held on a more serious charge than drunkeness and distrubing peace.
